Statement on the Fight Against Systemic Racism and Racial Violence in the United States
Washington, D.C. — Our nation is reeling from the murder of George Floyd, yet another gut-wrenching tragedy in the overt and uninterrupted sanctioning of racism in the United States. For too long, this country has tolerated and even condoned institutionalized racism across nearly every aspect of life—from the justice system to education to the workplace.
The right to peacefully assemble and protest is a cornerstone of American democracy, and the National Council on Teacher Quality supports communities across the country as they advocate for justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the many other victims of systemic racism and racial violence.
We must work to fix these broken and unjust systems, including pressing for an education system in which all students are valued equally, and all students—especially students of color—have access to a high-quality education that will empower them with opportunities to succeed.
